This is What Makes Iris&Romeo an Earth-Friendly Company
We’re proud of everything that goes into Iris&Romeo products, like the clinical levels of Bulgarian rose extract in Best Skin Days and the plant-based proteins and amino acids in Brow Up. And we love that our products are easy to use, universally lovely, and free from harmful ingredients, as well. But the thing that really gets us out of bed in the morning is the mission behind those products—a mission Iris&Romeo founder Michele Gough-Baril established as part of a greater understanding of her own purpose and the work she puts out into the world.
“After quitting my high-power career in the beauty industry, I developed a profound connection to nature while living on the land with a herd of horses,” says Michele. “Horses live in a societal order, and they model the ways in which all of us are connected and dependent on each other. This is our home, and living among those horses made me a fierce and unapologetic steward for our planet.”
That’s why sustainability and taking care of the Earth is our dominant value—we simply would not exist without it. So this Earth Day, we wanted to take a moment to share how Iris&Romeo is working towards being kinder to the planet, continuing our mission to be fully sustainable, and helping you celebrate your natural beauty, just as nature intended.
We Have a Very Strict No Junk Policy
There’s nothing unnecessary in any of our products, and certainly never anything potentially toxic. We don’t use any of the 1,400 ingredients banned by EU health standards (which are categorically stricter than US standards), meaning all Iris&Romeo formulas are free from cyclic silicones, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, polyurethane compounds (otherwise known as PEGS), synthetic fragrances, and 1,394 other harmful ingredients.
The ingredients we do include in Iris&Romeo formulas are both naturally derived and synthetic, and they’re always the best available. How serious do we take this? We’ve been known to wait months to launch a product just to make sure we can use a very specific type of oil or pigment. Yes, we are sticklers, but that’s what makes Iris&Romeo special.
We Believe in Needing Less
We have exciting launches in the (very) near future and hope to keep creating beauty essentials that free up time in your morning routine (as well as space in your beauty bag) but we’ll never sell you anything you don’t need. That’s why all of our current products are hybrid mixtures of the highest quality skincare and makeup. For example, Best Skin Days, our most popular product, is a pigmented foundation as well as a sunscreen, serum, and blue light/pollution protector. It’s a 5-in-1 that can replace so many other bottles in your bathroom, and that’s the whole point.
(Okay sure, we’d love for you to try Power Peptide Lip Balm in every shade, or , but we aren’t creating products just to sell them to you—that’s super wasteful, and not very Iris&Romeo at all).
We Recycle as Much as We Can
Best Skin Days and Power Peptide Lip Balm come in glass jars that are 100% recyclable, and our cardboard packaging is made from 100% post-consumer, FSC-certified recycled paper and printed with soy inks. This is an area we always strive to be better at and earth-friendly packaging is top of mind whenever we’re developing a new product. We haven’t gotten fully there yet, but we know we will soon.
We are Nice, Small, and Made in America
The Iris&Romeo team is small and scrappy, and that’s how we like it. We don’t have a big, energy-draining corporate office, nor do we invest in much overhead. We do, however, invest in kind, creative, ambitious people who love skincare, beauty, and wellness and want to make the world a better place. Oh, and as of this post, we aren’t just female-founded—we are completely staffed by women, too.
Another thing we’re really proud of is that while we source ingredients from around the world, all of our formulas and products are produced in the United States.
We are Always Getting Better
It’s impossible to get everything right 100% of the time, but every day we’re working towards making sure we’re creating the cleanest, highest-quality, and most sustainable skincare and beauty products on the planet. It’s a journey powered by optimism for the future, a passion for connecting with other women, and a whole lot of coffee.
