What Women’s Equality Day Means to Us.

What Women’s Equality Day Means to Us.

A Note from our Founder

I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 20 years. I love this business because, for the most part, it’s created by women, for women, and it’s so closely linked to our own relationship with ourselves. For these reasons it is powerful.

In the past 5 years since I dreamed up Iris&Romeo, I’ve witnessed a lot of positive change in the industry. I’ve seen activism to bring legislation around safer ingredients, innovation in sustainable packaging, and movements to support LGBTQ, Black Lives Matter, women’s rights, and to end Asian hate. I’m proud to be part of this community. Together we are creating real change.

Today, those of us with a uterus have another form of injustice to our human rights. The overturning of Roe vs. Wade ended the right to body autonomy for the thirty-six million women who are at risk of losing abortion access in their state.

Like many of you, when my team and I heard this news we were deeply saddened and anxious. What would it mean to have a future without choice? We didn’t have answers but we knew we had to get into action. We raised our voices on social media, donated to several organizations, and put out a call to action. We were met with support from our community and that included women in the media. Now, on Women’s Equality Day, we would like to return that support and tell you about an incredible community of journalists and creators who are doing important work to fight for reproductive justice.

Media for Reproductive Rights was formed when editors at Cosmopolitan asked the question, “What can media professionals do with their platforms and resources to fight for reproductive freedom?”

“Days after a Supreme Court document leaked that Roe v. Wade was set to be overturned, a group of us came together, refusing to give into despair, to figure out how we could come together to use our power and skill sets to protect the right to choose.

We formed Media for Reproductive Justice, a collective of media professionals working to make a tangible impact in support of reproductive rights.”
